The Pastoral Care Code
The Pastoral Care Code protects tertiary and all international learners in New Zealand.
The Pastoral Care Code is a code of practise that education providers must follow to ensure the safety and support of tertiary and international ākonga (learners) enrolled in Aotearoa New Zealand
The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Leaders) Code of Practice (2021), or Pastoral Care Code for short, sets out what Otago Polytechnic must do to ensure your well-being and safety and includes outcomes and requirements that must be meet by the institution.
It covers all aspects of pastoral care and is a legislative requirement across Aotearoa New Zealand, and is administered and monitored by New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
Otago Polytechnic has aligned to the Pastoral Care Code by creating and maintaining support systems and processes to ensure it can uphold your mana and autonomy and helps you to feel:
-
Safe – physically and mentally
-
Respected for who you are
-
Supported in your learning and wellbeing
-
Connected with social and cultural networks.
