Queer support
At OP we welcome people regardless of their age, race, sexual orientation or identity.
We are an inclusive and dynamic organisation that reflects the whole of the community we live in.
-
Diversity - Embracing having diverse talents with different backgrounds such as gender, age, gender identity, nationality and sexual orientation.
-
Inclusion - An appreciative and support environment where people respect each other, and everyone has the opportunity to demonstrate their potential to the fullest.
By focusing on diversity and inclusion we challenge ourselves to reflect on our behaviours, blind spots, assumptions, unconscious biases and perceptions of ourselves. We act to make sure that all staff and learners feel like they belong.
Being inclusive is good for peoples’ mental health, good for classroom culture, and good for business.
If you don’t feel comfortable or you have seen something that has made you feel uncomfortable, talk to a Wellbeing advisor at Student Success.
The Rainbow tick
OP is accredited with the Rainbow tick which is about accepting and valuing people in the workplace and classroom and embracing the diversity of sexual and gender identities. It is about creating a supportive environment that is accepting of peoples’ differences which benefits everybody in the organisation.
Having the rainbow tick is about having an inclusion welcoming environment that engages staff and learners and attracts the best possible people to come and study at OP.
Bring your whole self
People should be able to bring their whole selves to class. Bringing your whole self to OP doesn’t mean revealing your deepest darkest secrets to your classmates or teacher. It’s about people feeling like they authentically know who you are and what you are about.
When we can be our true authentic selves, we will be more engaged, be truly happy in the classroom, and waste less energy concealing important parts of our identities and therefore have more energy for work and study.
At OP you can represent yourself in the way you would like and choose the way you would like to identified as.
